Powdermill
is alive! We have completed and taken up
occupancy in our new $5 million headquarters facility.
Three major new exhibits are featured in the building: the
Living Stream, demonstrating the purity of the recycled water
from our second exhibit, the Marsh Machine wastewater treatment
system; and the long-anticipated Birds of the Ligonier
Valley avian exhibit. Our first William
and Ingrid Rea Conservation Biologist, Dr. Andy Mack, has
joined the staff and has already
begun new initiatives focused on our mission of research,
education, and preservation. Ongoing facility and infrastructure
improvements continue as we attract more researchers and
expand educational programming.
Our challenge
is to run two distinct fund raising efforts at the same
time – The Campaign for Powdermill and
the Annual Fund campaign. While we ask our friends to make
generous, one-time contributions to the capital campaign,
we must also depend on your generosity to help us pay the
bills for all the daily expenses upon which the important
work of Powdermill depends.
Your gift helps make it possible to fulfill our mission
of
Research
to help us better understand the ecology and biodiversity
of the Ligonier Valley and the
mid-Appalachian region;
Education to
communicate scientific research and the critical interdependence
between humans
and the environment; and
Preservation to
steward the land we hold.
You can feel the sense of excitement and possibilities in
the air at Powdermill! We hope you will help us to continue
this momentum with your generosity by making a tax-deductible
donation. Your gift in any amount may be made payable to
Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh and designated for Powdermill
Nature Reserve on the memo line. Please specify either the
Annual Fund or the Campaign for Powdermill and mail to Powdermill
Nature Reserve, Attention David A. Smith, Ph.D., Director,
1847 Route 381, Rector, PA 15677.
Powdermill is indeed alive!
